Not Again...

A Very Short Story

Funny how some moments can feel so galvanised, so empowering... so alive!

As if an army of possibility is standing behind you, armed to the teeth, ready to go to war.

And other times it's just you...

Standing alone in your pants...

Staring at a magic eye poster...

That's not even a magic eye poster...

Just a piece of very hypnotic wallpaper...

In someone else's living room...

At 3:13 in the morning...

Holding a bag of severed thumbs to remind you that you’re doing good...

But then you realise that some of the thumbs in the bag won't be pointing up so maybe you aren't doing so good...

Maybe you need to go upstairs and add some more thumbs to the bag...

So you grip the axe in your other hand a little tighter...

The mass of faceless grey figures hovering over your shoulder grows as you sway in time to the wind of their whispers...

Their own axes glinting in the moonlight...

Urging your foot onto the first step of the stairs...

Urging you to open the bedroom door…

Urging you to do what you came here to do…

And in that moment, you've never felt so galvanised, so empowered... so alive!

And you laugh, because it's funny.
