Nostalgia

Memories back then

By Elizabeth ButlerPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

December snow lightly falls,

Upon tall streetlamps, standing tall.

With a chill in the air,

We gather indoors.

Resting weary legs,

Near firewood, it roars.

Burning flames rise,

Contained in the fireplace.

We toast our marshmallows,

While watching as it glows.

Striped candy canes are hanging,

The sweetness in the air.

The smell of cakes, buns galore,

We beg our Grandma for more.

We gather around,

Like simpler times,

In childhood memories.

We feel so small once again,

A winter back sometime then.

As an adult,

I long to be there.

Nostalgic traditions,

Always shared.

Within cold months,

We wrap up warm.

Marching in frozen moments,

And battling the snowstorms.

At the end of the day,

Once icy moon shines,

We snuggle inside our quilts,

Our noses filled with pine.

There may be chills in the wind,

But Christmas is my comfort.

A large hug of milk and cookies,

And stockings full of goodies.
