Noise
A fictional free-verse poem about a young man with Schizophrenia named Nathan. Trigger warning: mental illness, childhood trauma and abuse
Laying on my denim sofa,
my mind takes me
to somewhere surreal and haunted.
Monsters scream in my face,
thunderstorms make deafening sounds
and massive, spooky black rottweilers bark ominously.
Flashbacks suck the living hell out of me,
alters my sanity and identity,
transforming me into a bruised zombie.
Home was not home;
my hometown was possessed
by talking and walking ghosts.
The village was sorrowful
with leafless trees standing and drooping
beside the polluted, odorous lake.
My childhood is history;
it's concealed in my cupboard
of memories of pain and fear.
