No Step Forward

We find comfort in the lies

Little demons, they compensate

Tirelessly stoking the flames of hope

Until they're snuffed

We project success on the tomorrows

Dreaming of the joys they could bring

To escape the traps that litter our paths

Echoes of our own self sabotage

One step Forward, Two Steps back

So blame the millenials

Drunk on the ecstasy of their youth

Who butt heads with the system for emancipation

Oblivous to the slither and spit of life

Or blame that very System

The chains our parents inherited

From the twisted mindset of their elders

Who carried the burden of tradition

Two Steps forward, four steps back

Then they gave a voice to the voiceless

Retribution to the oppressed

Who bite the hands that cut them loose

Compensation for their incompetence

Now we juggle pleasure with religion

Each step we take following backward

As we mask the lucid truth we fear

Hand in Hand with our insecurities

Afraid to let go
