No Pennies For a Pint

A poem inspired by Dr. Peter Kreeft on the Pints with Aquinas podcast by ED 8/3/22

Feed me a penny

Deposit into me

Instead of the one million and three

Other people you could be

Take a chance, pretty please

Turn off the TV

Look away from every screen

Peel back your eyes before they bleed

From the manufactured monotony

Live forever or die for peace?

Those, though awake, often fail to see

That sloth leads to greed

Pride leads to envy

Wrath unquelled by gluttony

Is lust’s hellish harmony

To discover the perspective of Christianity

Uncover Lewis’ deep, dark seas

After a swim, delve into Tolkien

Take a lengthy, marvelous journey

Then settle into philosophy

Ponder the stars, why do they seem

So bright in the dark? How does one keep

A blessing in her heart or live truly?

A pint with Aquinas to touch reality

Is the best day’s end, and doesn’t cost a penny.
