No One Owns Me

I am me, my own woman.

No One Owns Me

I walked through fire,

and felt no fear,

the flames grew high,

yet I held my ground.

Voices chased me,

calling me theirs,

trying to claim

what they never knew.

I stood alone,

hands at my sides,

ready to rise,

ready to fight.

Chains once held me,

cold and tight,

yet I cut them loose,

piece by piece.

The world pushed hard,

wanting control,

trying to shape

my every step.

I met its gaze,

unmoving and clear,

showing no break,

showing no bend.

My heart burned bright,

a steady flame,

lighting the truth,

that I am free.

No one owns me,

not past or pain,

my soul is mine,

and always will be.
