No Big Deal

Shine badly with me

no big deal.

you drowned, I choke daily —

just different hobbies.

-

no big deal.

the sea took your lungs,

but lungs are rubbish anyway.

always whining, always leaking.

light doesn’t bother with them —

light just barges in,

spills, humiliates,

laughs in the dark.

-

no big deal.

you’re soggy, I’m rancid.

together we’re soup.

add some salt, a splash of piss,

we glow like bad neon

above a takeaway joint.

open late, never clean.

-

no big deal.

the body’s a scam:

skin moulds, bones whine,

the heart sulks like a teenager.

strip it down and what’s left?

a fizz, a spark,

something ugly but luminous.

-

no big deal.

you don’t have to go under again.

you don’t have to vanish.

just hum, badly,

like a streetlight flickering

above a piss-stained alley.

awful light,

petty light,

but still light.

-

no big deal.

stay.

shine badly with me.
