No. 14 When

A poem I don't remember writing but very much remember the emotion of writing

When I look up in the daylight and see the blue sky

A weight in my heart; a mist in my eye

There's grief which I can't express with my tongue

And burning inside my lungs

I go down to the alley and watch the rain fall

Eyes to the ground; back to the wall

If only I'd look up and see your promise hanging there

The sidewalk returns my stare

When did I lose my way?

When did I misplace my hope?

When did I misstep?

When did I make a mess out of me?

You cry out

"In me child you're complete,

In me you have no need.

Come back to me and be free.

Come back and just be

still."
