No. 11 Stranger in the Mirror

An older poem, but it checks out

A blurry face meets me in the mirror

I don't know whose eyes are staring back at me

The hat I wore when I was younger

The masks I used as I got old

Gravel roads as rough as this voice

Of the siren who gaslighted me

Takes me back to when I was very young

No sequoia's now standing, or any other tree

I'm a goner

In and out of phase

I'm a loner

Hiding my face

I don't wanna be forgotten

I wanna be known by you

Great expectations slip through my fingers

Handwritten memories in immature slang

The past stalled out on the interstate

21 times I should've come home

I'm a goner

In and out of phase

I'm a loner

Hiding my face

I don't wanna be forgotten

I wanna be known by you

Don't cry over this I've got all my life to live

We all look down from time to time

There's folk I still miss but I've still got joy to give

Another verse and another rhyme

Soaring skylines shine through the mist

Where a stranger called out some good news

"Haven't you heard my friend?

The old man's dead; long live the king"
