Night Creatures

A reminder to drive carefully at night.

There are those things that go bump in the pale moonlight

Things which we don't see until it's too late

They're there in the darkness while most slumber with delight

Unknowing how the things in the night affect their fate

Do you see the monsters around us all

Whispering to themselves about the path through

They travel the void, the short and the tall

Bringing down their hand of fate upon those few

For the few are the ones traversing their dark lands so brave

Venturing into the world not meant for good men

They venture into the danger for that adrenaline they so crave

Not knowing they'll get home, not the if or the when

But those creatures that surround them see them first in the dark

Watching their movements with intense scrutiny and wonder

Why would such frail creatures venture into their part of the park

And risk becoming a victim of their ravenous plunder

They crawl, they walk, and they can go wherever without fright

Staying invisible from the eyes of those brave souls coming out

Creatures of the night have the natural gift to stay out of sight

Except the flare of their eyes that makes them stand out

The brave ones who've worked until their fingers bled

And stepped out again in the middle of the nothingness to serve

Must watch for the shadows and the flares, or join the dead

Slowing down their travels through the void to be ready to swerve
