Leaves of gold, then brown, then gone.

Air feels light but appears darker.

Heat slowly acquiesces.

Night chills first.

Plants become dormant or whither.

Cinnamon and clove scents abound.

Warm drinks welcomed once again.

Long sleeves and pants replace swimsuits and shorts.

Families gather around the first crackling fire.

Kids roast marshmallows,

Giggling, keeping warm chasing each other.

Parents enjoy spiced spirits,

Laughing that they complained about summer heat not long ago.
