New year, same me
But I'm infinitely different
Than I was in 2017.
.
I don't change quickly,
Like the shattering of ice.
A slow molding is more precise.
.
Day by day, living
A new idea clicking or
The digging in of heels.
Deep rooted family leanings
Mulling over old ideals.
.
Maybe this hour, a repeat at best.
Yet, the day will never happen again.
I drove the same curve
Year after year, whispering ‘amen.’
Watch the blinding spring sunrise morph
Into winter’s dark early morn.
.
But this year, time's lost its preserve.
Nothing ever changes,
Then everything differs.
I feel the same yet shifted,
Like a dune migrating the desert.
.
Prayers from ages ago are answered,
I’m the same as yesterday though
A new person from last January.
.
New year, same me
Forever slowly growing
Since a Thursday in the late 1990's.
