Embers on the sidewalk
Their flame already lost
No hope, it quickly passes
Strewn across the masses
Nought but dust.
Rare, though still it happens
One ember catches wind
In flight her light surprises
A phoenix swiftly rises
All alone.
Across the strange and sunburnt land
A new future unfolds.
Bid farewell to lifeless sorrows
As exciting new tomorrows
Spark her soul.
The spark now fire burning bright
Once lost but now it’s found.
Childlike passion, hope and glee
A youthful joy for all to see
Will it hold?
Shades are creeping, lurking, seeking
Draw back and join the crowd
It’s safer with a matching face
Freedom is fickle, out of place
Will it hold?
