I wrote this today because I have decided to take a stand for myself and not allow myself discomfort in places I don't feel wanted. Sometimes self care has to come before the longing to be accepted. Part of me is sad but another part of me is proud of myself.

I must shed this cracked armor from me
Don a new sturdy one for all to see.
I've long tried too hard to please
It's time to give myself a break, take ease.
--
The cracks were formed from circumstance
and my own years of self beating.
So now it's time to give myself a chance
before time becomes too fleeting.
--
Replacing people pleasing, my old armor here,
self preservation becomes my new protective gear.
I will make the new armor strong enough
to survive my own mental lash and give it
carbon steel where loneliness once attached.
--
I must embellish the armor with self care for
one blow in the wrong place could cause despair.
I'll weave in a filigree of confidence
in intricate maps bolted with self-resilience
against inner collapse.
--
My armor will be strengthened with inner resolve
guard against my courage others so easily dissolve.
With bolts fired in the very strongest of heat
my determination will not easily see defeat.
--
I will replace this old armor as it is time I should
replace it with something I will wear for my own good.
Confidence and resilience entwined like sacred geometry,
fortifying armor's essence to stand steadfast for me.
--
Final hammer strike – determination forged in fiercest heat,
tempering unyielding spirit. My masterpiece, my armor, complete.
