Never Would Have

a poem

I know

it never would have worked;

I'm anxious,

I'm deeply emotional,

and I'm incredibly impatient.

I hate the sounds that humans make,

I have a mouth like a sailor,

and I don't

fucking

apologize

for it.

You've never been curious about me

You never

asked me to dance

I never believed a word you said to me,

and yet I believed every single one of them,

far too much.

I'm complicated,

I'm intense,

and I'm altogether fucked up.

He puts up with a lot

And I'm not really pretty.

You'd never believe a word I said to you,

and yet I'd mean every single one of them,

far too much.

I'm excessively honest with you,

and I lie to myself constantly.

You're fickle,

You're aloof,

and you sometimes

forget

that I'm

a person, too.

You only care about

the fragility

of the things that matter to you,

and not one of them is me.

We can talk about

missed chances,

bad decisions,

and how we were so close.

But you know, too;

it never would have worked.
