Spare Change

Since Covid they pop up everywhere.

Tents, garments, extending an outstretched hand,

Almost like they are chanting in unison,

"Spare change, spare change."

As if there is such a thing.

Penny abolished the smallest be a nickel,

Yet five nickels is a quarter and four quarters a dollar!

That dollar is not taxed, so is it really a dollar?

Not derailing struggles of homelessness or the financial burden

That life has on us yet,

What if we were the ones down on luck?

Would the person we gave change to

Ever help us out?

Or would he do like so many others have done,

Talk emptily and walk away.

Oh I do not understand the words

Spare Change.
