For every star my branches reach,

Know my roots spread just as deep.

However gnarled they may be,

However twisting my beginning,

They hold me fast against life’s storms,

And roaring winds unending.

I’ve grown more than dared I to dream,

Unfurling leaves as lessons learned,

I’ve pruned more than I care recall,

And green’s grown back in places burned.

My roots; my home, the heavens; dreams,

I grow to bridge the gap.

My harvest; the fruits of all my endeavors,

My scarred, coarse bark; a storied map.

My roots; the cords of those before,

They bind me to the earth,

They will me up into the sky,

And their dreams unfurl in this tale of rebirth.

For every victory I reap,

Know my hope spreads just as deep.

For every star my branches reach,

Know my roots spread just as deep.
