a fog descends on the city

on the neon flashing lights

on the drunken revellers who party

and smoke their cares in the night

the rain has swept away ambition

in an avalanche of sorrow from the stars

in a silent plea for compassion

from the graceful ones at a height .

they are clouded now over by fog

my thoughts, no longer white and black

are blurred by shape-shifting visions

by the creeping suspicion I lack-

the Something Else, that is out there calling

Some One who requires more from me

when the fog lifts, I’ll know once again

the life for which I’m meant to Be .

til then... I’ll bob in tides of change

and dream cloudy shapeless dreams

I’ll peer at the hazy grey vista

knowing, not all is as it seems...

surreal poetry
