LYRICAL SESSION - POETRY IN MOTION

By Kale SinclairPublished 3 months ago Updated 3 months ago 2 min read

I scuffed my knee at six years old
Face scarred, mean mugging the school photographer for telling me my pose was too cold

At sixteen I became prom king,
Kissing the prom queen -
Car clean, ducking sunscreen, sipping caffeine -
Hygiene, gasoline, smoking blue dream -
Dopamine, kerosene, makin’ all the girls scream (AHHH)
Twenty-one was a funny one
shooting water guns eating honey buns

…Hating every one…

A couple dollars in my pocket for some pizza slices
Saving all my change for the rising fucking weed prices.
Improvised devices made smoking vices easier
Making out in showers outside underneath the meteors.
I’m an operator operating in nostalgic territory
Pressin’ detonators, gladiators, stuck in purgatory
Parties in the dormitory
Subjects in a laboratory
Fucking on the stars
Getting head in the observatory

Nostalgia is a motherfucker
Yeah…yeah
Thank you mom for the bread and butter
Mmmm…mmmm
Nostalgia is a mother fucker
Yeah… yeah
If moments are like gardens,
then memories are all the ground cover

Rap Posters on my wall
Ducking from the cops and my mother’s calls
I was a one man rebellion
Getting beatings down to my skeleton

I stuffed my old socks with cigarettes
Letting air out of the tires of new corvettes
My dresser was an addicts treasure trove,
Me and the homies never missed a Super Bowl

Padding my shirts between beer bottles
so they didn’t clink in my backpack
I was a Disney movie nerd,
my favorite hero was the hunchback

Tattooing my skin was a sin my mother cried about
Creating art with words was my sport, fuck a talent scout (sorry dad)

I miss the days when skateboarding
was the most dangerous activity
Exploring the haunted woods,
testing the limits of invisibility
The dangers of today are more cunning,
and created artificially

Nostalgia, please, I beg you
Cripple me with visibility

Nostalgia is a motherfucker
Yeah…yeah
Thank you mom for the bread and butter
Mmmm…mmmm
Nostalgia is a mother fucker
Yeah… yeah
If moments are like gardens,
then memories are all the ground cover

Polaroid skies and the smell of rain
Holding secret summers inside my veins.
Take me back to the nights
when we couldn’t fall asleep,
Singing too loud in showers and passenger seats
We were innocent, thinking forever
was somewhere close,
just a man chasing shadows
running faster than the ghosts.

Nostalgia is a motherfucker
Yeah…yeah
Thank you mom for the bread and butter
Mmmm…mmmm
Nostalgia is a mother fucker
Yeah… yeah
If moments are like gardens,
then memories are all the ground cover

Nostalgia is a motherfucker
Yeah…yeah
Thank you mom for the bread and butter
Mmmm…mmmm
Nostalgia is a mother fucker
Yeah… yeah
If moments are like gardens,
then memories are all the ground cover
