MY SHIP FLOATS ON WAVES
They carry us away in the breeze

MY SHIP FLOATS ON WAVES
My ship floats on waves
With her sails opened wide,
She dances with sunlight
And follows the tide.
She carries no treasure
No silver or gold,
Just stories I gathered
And dreams I still hold.
Her windows are painted
The colour of sky,
So even below deck
The clouds wander by.
The wind is her music
The mast is her song,
The sea keeps her moving
When nights become long.
A gull is my captain
He shouts from above,
Turn left for adventure
Turn right if it’s love.
A crab is the cook
With a hat far too tall,
He burns all the biscuits
Then blames it on Paul.
The dolphins come dancing
They leap as we sail,
One wears an old ribbon
He found on a whale.
My ship has no anchor
She wants to be free,
She floats on the waves
Like a leaf on the sea.
We sail past an island
Where bright parrots sing,
And monkeys wear necklaces
Fit for a king.
A turtle comes closer
And knocks on our side,
He asks for directions
Then stays for the ride.
We sail through the morning
We sail through the noon,
Then polish the windows
To welcome the moon.
At night all the stars
Fall close to the mast,
They tell us our future
And laugh at our past.
One star loses balance
And drops in the sea,
I lower a bucket
And pull it up free.
It sleeps in my cabin
Till morning grows bright,
Then climbs up the rigging
And flies out of sight.
We meet with a rainbow
That ends in the foam,
It paints all our sails
And then follows us home.
No storm can defeat us
No wind makes us fall,
My ship might be little
But stands proud and tall.
She carries my worries
Then throws them away,
And brings back new stories
At dawn every day.
Wherever she takes me
Whatever I find,
I leave every trouble
And heartache behind.
My ship floats on waves
And I float there too,
Towards a bright morning
Where old dreams turn new.
