My October Room

The Room of my Dreams

I have always dreamed

of a house of my own,

a dream house

I may never have.

I call it the House of

Seasons.

One room is the October

Room.

Step inside.

Walk upon my soft carpet

of red, yellow, and green

leaves.

Branches dressed in

autumn colors

become chairs,

their arms reaching out

to embrace you.

On the cold, white wall

hangs a giant poster of

autumn,

a thousand-colored leaves

falling into silence.

And I wonder--

Is this the autumn of my life?

Is this my October?

A blanket of leaves

covers the bed,

reminding me of a wedding

that never happened,

a day that never came,

a dream that quietly faded

with the passing seasons.

Yes, I am in the autumn of

my life,

my own October.

I am neither sad nor happy.

I am simply here,

learning to accept

the seasons I have lived

through,

the dreams I have lost,

and the ones that still

remain.

And in this quiet room,

surrounded by the colors of

fall,

I try to find what I have

always wanted--

not a perfect life,

not a dream fulfilled,

but a little peace,

here,

in my October Room.
