My Muted Colors

By Emily King

By emily kingPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Blood is red,

But mine is blue,

Thats no thanks to mom and you.

But I won’t ever let them see me bleed.

Pillow cases are white

But mine stained black,

As you tell me all the things I lack

But I won’t ever let them see me cry.

Dusk is purple

But mine is gray,

I couldn’t find the words to make him stay

But I won’t ever let them see me tongue tied.

The grass is green

But mines turned brown,

There has been no rain since you fled town

They see me covered in the colors you left around.

You taught me

And you were right,

That not all colors, will be bright.

We have muted days

of browns and grays,

But you should never hide your colors from the light.
