My Mind Controls The Narrative

My mind controls the narrative.

It runs every which way sometimes

when we have just a simple idea.

It brings the best advice to me when the plans fall through,

or my heart comes through,

or my nerves flow through—

My mind controls the narrative

and it will gate-keep all these functions from taking over.

I lost nearly everything i had once before,

My mom and I.

Shoes, clothes, furniture, rugs, baby photos;

broke and broken.

I lost NEARLY everything,

but my mind was the best kept item amongst that list.

We fought that battle together,

to never stand on any street corner,

sell my life away, or steal from the next man to make his situation closer to what mine is.

All ‘cause I let my mind, control the narrative.
