My Identity

My brain–a galaxy studded with

clusters of stars being held together by their gravity,

there is a constant flow of thought–a geyser

waiting to erupt and release some steam

*

At times, I float around at the bottom of a cascading waterfall–await its slow descent as it glides down a series of steps

Immersing myself in a world that is nothing but a color wheel

designed to evoke a certain look and feel

*

To absorb this beautiful array of hues, values and tones–watching the white light separate as it makes its way through a prism

to then disperse into reds, purples, oranges, yellows, blues and greens

while I sit back and evaluate what the final image will be

*

Sometimes the world seems amber

–dark honey caught from wildflowers

and on other days it feels light

–honey produced from citrus orange blossoms

*

At times we humans can act like bees

being social insects living within colonies

sucking all the nectar of brightly colored trees

trying to prevent individual identity

*

There is the call to have my voice be heard–a push

to no longer live in the shadows

to enter into the bright and luminous light

to not care if it blinds me with all its grandeur

*

My individuality is a choice that makes me unique

It is a mix of different shades and tints–colors

that create harmony because they blend well together

or complimentary even though they are on opposite sides of the wheel

*

Become who you want to be

Learn to live within your own identity
