A blue eyed towhead, androgynous dream; now a toothless balding man

Yesterday's wedding bells sound like the funeral march playing on repeat

Cherry kisses, poisoned; toxicity infuses his veins, and I kiss no more

Freedom, much like loneliness, doesn't keep one warm at night

Whiffs of a graveyard haunt me but peace of mind are the roses I choose

...

My poem is based on truth. My husband is a homeless drug addict. We married in the early 90s and have two daughters but our time together was short. Legally married, but we have been estranged for years. One daughter has minimal contact with her dad, the other, cut him off years ago.

This was a difficult write but necessary. Healing is ongoing and not a day goes by when I do not think about the man who will always be one of the most intelligent and gifted people I've ever known.

If you stopped by, thanks for reading!
