My Heart Swells
In disbelief but also with gratitude
The tremendous gratitude of a true blessing,
Beyond my wildest expectation,
Reaching out across the miles of a distant goodbye,
Totally undeserving of this feeling of elation.

I’ll take it with absolute gratitude,
In awe as it makes my heart swell,
The hand offered and accepted,
Where the doubts were known to often dwell.
**
It’s when I was at my lowest,
I found this dream has begun to manifest,
A wish at the bottom of my heart,
Showing me that at times I have been blessed.
**
I’m truly honoured,
And I can only say thank you,
Where once I thought I’d lost the preciousness,
Until I was shown the honest and the true.
**
I welcome the heart that has opened,
My faith in humanity is suddenly restored,
A simple gesture extended,
And my heart swelled of its own accord.

That essential, sparkling you that you only reveal to a select few. Had I been paying more attention to the stories you are so fond of telling, in which you are invariably author, narrator and protagonist, I would not have been so foolish as to set you up on a blind date. After all, no friend has ever done anything of the kind for another. That’s preposterous. What is a friend, really?
