MY BROTHERS, MY FRIENDS

Love thy brothers love thy families

MY BROTHERS, MY FRIENDS

We shared the same beginnings,
The same familiar door,
We ran around as children
And argued on the floor.

We borrowed one another’s things,
Then swore we never did,
We blamed each other quickly
For every thing we hid.

We laughed around the table,
We fought and made amends,
We may have started brothers,
But soon became best friends.

You knew when I was hurting,
Though I would never say,
You sat there close beside me
And would not go away.

When others turned against me,
You stood there by my side,
You never asked for reasons,
Or left me there to hide.

We travelled different pathways,
Life pulled us here and there,
But when one voice said, “I need you,”
The others would be there.

The years changed all our faces,
Put silver in our hair,
But nothing touched the loyalty
And memories we share.

We buried those we loved once,
And held each other tight,
We shared the darkest mornings
And walked through every night.

You are my oldest memories,
My laughter and my tears,
The ones who truly know me
Through all the changing years.

One day our steps will weaken,
Our voices may grow low,
But love will walk between us
Wherever we may go.

The world may call us brothers,
But that is not the end,
For blood may make us family,
But love makes us true friends.
