MY BODY SWIMS LIKE A FISH

My body swims like a fish
When I enter the sea,
The water comes gently
And carries all me.

My arms become silver
My feet become fins,
The ocean grows quiet
As my journey begins.

I glide through the sunlight
That falls from above,
Wrapped in the water
Like arms filled with love.

My hair becomes seaweed
It dances behind,
The coolness around me
Brings peace to my mind.

The fish gather near me
In yellow and blue,
One looks at my face
As if asking, who’re you?

I tell him, I’m human
But only on land,
In here I am weightless
No need for a hand.

A seahorse rides proudly
With reins made of weed,
He thinks he’s a racehorse
But lacks any speed.

A crab waves his pincers
Then starts doing tricks,
He juggles five seashells
But drops nearly six.

An octopus passes
In bright purple shoes,
He says eight odd slippers
Are hard things to choose.

A turtle swims slowly
And carries a chair,
He stops for a rest
But forgets it is there.

I laugh out my bubbles
They rise through the blue,
The fish try to catch them
But bubbles slip through.

I swim past the coral
In orange and gold,
Where hundreds of stories
Are waiting untold.

I follow a sunbeam
That reaches below,
It opens a pathway
And shows where to go.

No weight sits upon me
No pain holds me still,
The sea gives me freedom
The land never will.

My heartbeat grows steady
My breathing feels free,
I’m part of the water
The water is me.

I dance with the current
It turns me around,
There’s music in water
But never a sound.

My body swims like a fish
My heart follows through,
I borrow the freedom
Of oceans of blue.

When finally I return
To the warm golden shore,
My feet walk on sand
But my soul swims once more.
