My Baby

A poem

By Sara WilsonPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

Felt like nobody was there

when I needed it the most

I was walking with the living

but I felt like a ghost

-

I was trapped inside the darkness

Couldn't find my way out

Trying to keep myself together

but my head was filled with doubt

-

Life was getting hard

I was tired of being tough

Ready to throw it all away

I was done. I had enough

-

Then I saw this burning light

This beautiful lantern lit the dark

It was a hot and heavy glow

That started from a single tiny spark

-

I pulled myself up off the ground

and I opened up my eyes

I felt the purpose of my heartbeat

in your teeny tiny cries

-

I reached out for your hand

and was enveloped by your light

I knew I'd keep you safe forever

Never let you leave my sight

-

Your tiny toothless smile

and your itty bitty nose

You're the picture of perfection

from your head to your toes

-

I may have given you life

but you've made my life worth living

You're the reason I can breathe

and the gift that keeps on giving

-

You heard my heart breaking inside

while I hid it from the world

I felt you dancing in my tummy

while you twisted and twirled

-

You have no idea

how important you are

I never knew a light

could reach quite so far

-

You know I do my best

you let me know that it's enough

When the world brings you down

I will always build you up

-

Giving up isn't an option

when someone needs you alive

No longer getting through the days

trying just to survive

-

I will always be here

to remind you of your glow

You're an angel in my eyes

I just thought you should know
