A murder of crows perches

on a power line cawing

lyrics I can’t comprehend,

their rhythm and cadence

lost on me.

I once worked with a

Mexican line cook,

Jesus

is his name.

“Hey, Zeus”

is the correct pronunc-

iation. Merging mythologies

into the best burger

Uptown, in the bright lights

of the city, across the street

from the theatre.

(history renovated into

sleek modernity)

The power lines

crackle and sizzle

underground, too deep

for the crows, under the

streets and crosswalks,

train tracks,

and cemeteries.

So the crows caw and perch

atop the haunted hotel

where Jesus makes burgers.
