muddying the waters

a poem

I opened a virtual office

complaints and undue payments flow through it

like blood from cut veins

“I don’t want to pay!”

“I can’t afford it!”

“why are you penalising me

if I have all the means on my side?!”

they’re trying to convince me, but it’s not me

making up these daffy rules

smart men in smart suits

contorting plots

mixing gin with tequila

whiskey and vodka

to come up with a concept

utterly impractical

where we all drown like drunkards

but while some artists

can be at their best in this state

other members of our race

walk proudly on concepts accomplished

on the inconsistency of their world

initiating faults

of which we all fall prey
