Mothers Love

A Poem of Toxic Self Discovery

By Antwion CPublished 3 years ago • 1 min read

I remember when I turned eight years old was the day my father fell from grace.

He raised his hand into the the air and struck it across my face.

I cried and screamed as he hit me, and I hit the floor.

I tried begging him for mercy, but he just hit me some more.

That night I had a gash above my eye and a broken collar bone.

My mama took me to the hospital then from there to her mama's home.

She swore she would leave him if it wasn't for her love.

But her love wasn't for him it was for his drugs.

And for her love she would sleep with any man

So she could put needle marks up and down her lovely hands

For her love she would endure any pain

Just to be able to erase it later with a kiss of Mary Jane

For her love she would brave the coldest winter and harshest night

So, in the morning she could feel the hot embrace of snow white

So, its no wonder when she died by the hands of what she loved the most.

The same damn hospital my daddy sent me to made the call, Death by Overdose

And that hurt.

I didn't realize what I was feeling was heart break.

I didn't realize I could be paralyzed from heartache.

I didn't realize this brand of torture till my eyes poured like rain.

I didn't realize that my heart could make this type of pain.

Now that, that pain it drove me near bat-shit insane.

And for the first time I made love to Mary Jane

And when I was put in the custody of the man fallen from grace

I started to put needles in my arms to forget his face

When he beat me out his home into foster care

I embraced snow white to ignore my fear

And with my mother looking down from above

At 17 I inherited my mother's love
