Mother Nature, our beloved,
We sometimes forget and ignore you,
Yet you wait with open arms.
*
Your soil grounds
Your scents awaken
The coolness of your breeze on a sun-drenched day embraces like a lover
The majesty of your mountains inspires
The chill of your waters refresh
The tickle of your grass on bare feet amuses
Your creatures entertain us, feed us, and befriend us
Your fresh air rejuvenates, stimulates, and heightens senses.
*
Sometimes you get angry with us -
It's no more than we deserve for taking you for granted.
You remind us with earthquakes, volcanos, and storms
That we are still the children and you,
The Mother.
*
Mother Nature, our beloved,
Forgive our wayward ways,
Our gluttonous living,
Our misuse and abuse
Of your generous gifts.
*
We are learning.
We wish to be welcomed by your outstretched arms.
