Its not even 6pm

And I can see the sun has run from me

She’s gone

And now only Luna is here to comfort me

She is accompanied by wind

That’s wraps me up in a hug

Like that from an old friend

But the air is frigid

Like the company of an enemy

I envy the —

Warmth that I prayed away for months

During the summer heat

A shiver runs down my spine

And I remember what my momma told me

“Baby, don’t forget your coat”

How is it that mothers always know

Even when I’m miles away from her

And now I’m minutes away from home

But it feels like hours to go

When the tips of your fingers and nose sting from the cold

A light hoodie just wont cut it no mo

I should have known

When even the fairs and the festivals have packed up to go

I should’ve worn my thick socks

I think I can start to feel it in my toes

I’m only seconds away from home

But it just goes to show

Don’t forget that winter coat

Listen to your mother yall

Because she always knows

Especially when the weathers bout to turn cold
