I am a sinner; my mother taught me so,
And for God to forgive me,
I must quit my prideful mind,
Become senseless and blind,
For God to be my reason and eyes.
My mother taught me that
If I want God not to rage against me,
I must give up on what is mine
For others to use and command,
While I express gratitude with lies.
She taught me that
My stubborn, sinful ways make me into
A shameful inconvenience
For decent traditional families
Upon which God smiles.
My mother also taught me
That God will damn me to hell
If I dare to accept kindness from a friend
And to feel worthy of a love
That she can’t supervise and approve.
I can’t follow my mother’s teachings;
I feel sick every time I do so.
And if that makes Mother-God rage against me,
There is only one option left:
To grow shiny, black wings like Lucifer’s
And fly high and free away from her.
