A Reminder from a Faithful Companion

"Shinin' Through" by Dana O. Crandell

I forget too often to look up.

The night

And the spectacle revealed as the light fades

Still fill me with childlike wonder.

The moon,

Constant companion, nearest neighbor -

No less a mystery than the cosmos itself,

Tugs at my curiosity as it does the seas.

Dancing,

Performing in a duet choreographed by the Ages

And practiced since birth,

It reminds me to strive for perfection.

Balanced

And balancing us in a constant exchange

Of forces beyond our comprehension,

It reminds me to seek equilibrium.

Battered

And scarred, it continues its journey,

Faithfully completing its cycle over the eons,

Reminding me to weather the storms.

Minuscule

In the vastness of the beyond,

Playing a part in a symphony of untold dimensions,

It reminds me that we are a part of something far bigger than we can imagine.

Hidden

Save for the reflection of a light not its own,

It still moves oceans and calls to the creatures below,

Reminding me that nothing – and no one - is insignificant.

Stunning! Loved the lines “Hidden Save for the reflection of a light not its own,” dare say there’s some rich layers of meaning that can be drawn from those lines and many others

In general, I love the night sky. It's perfect on a crisp winter night with snow. This was beautifully descriptive.

Battered, Dancing, Balanced, Miniscule, Hidden. You've encompassed that feeling we get when we acknowledge all of those things are true about ourselves and yet we are seen, valued, and loved.

Dana, this was a great poem. I love the tenderness that you were able to portray and the way you portrayed the consistence of the moons phases. It's inspiring to see how you can make a simple thing so elegant. The concept that the moon reminds us that we're all part of something bigger was also really relatable for me! Nicely done!

I've been recently getting into the habit of stopping by creators' first pieces on Vocal that I've not read...crikey this was a real treat, Dana! Love the image and your words that seem to sum it all up so succinctly and beautifully! So so good!

Gorgeous reminder about good ole Luna up there tugging on the water we're made of. I enjoyed this, Dana! I've seen a number of your sky-photos around Vocal; They're beautiful and soulful!

Wow this was so good. You said so much. I look up in at the moon above the trees rising in my little piece of forest behind my house and think the same things. Well done my friend.
