When I was little

Full of wonder and light

I used to see monsters under my bed.

They never spoke

Never moved.

Just were there.

Stuck in a room.

With me

.

I didn't cry to my father.

I didn't run from them

I just watched.

Waited.

.

They watched me too

I'd feel their eyes

I'd feel them inch closer night by night

Until they would be at the foot of my bed

A year ago, they were under.

Now they are so close.

Still, they did nothing.

Just watched.

Just waited.

.

I didn't cry to my mother.

I didn't run from them.

Just watched

Just waited too.

.

Another year passes

Then breath on my neck

Claws up my spine

The smell of something decaying

The sound of something laughing

The monsters waited long enough

.

I didn't cry out.

I didn't run.

Just watched.

Just waited for them to be done.
