Monkey Laugh Monkey Sing
Avery intelligent Monkey indeed

Monkey Laugh Monkey Sing
Monkey laugh monkey sing from the wire
Dance for the crowd till your spirit grows tired
Clap little hands while the people all grin
Nobody caring what sadness lives within
Painted bright colours and dressed like a fool
Life turned performance for somebody cruel
Every loud cheer like a crack through the soul
Pieces of dignity swallowed whole
Monkey laugh monkey sing louder tonight
Hide all the fear underneath circus light
Smile while the children point fingers and stare
As though your suffering is nothing but air
The cage smells heavy of old rust and rain
Still every evening repeats just the same
Music starts blaring, the whip cracks again
Humiliation disguised as a game
One tiny monkey sat still by the bars
Watching the moon and the cold distant stars
Something intelligent lived in his eyes
Far beyond tricks and rehearsed little lies
Then late one night when the crowd disappeared
Silence arrived strange and painfully clear
No songs, no laughter, no forcing the grin
Only a creature trapped deeply within
Monkey laugh monkey sing echoes remain
A cruel old rhythm stitched tight into pain
Perhaps one day all the cages will fall
And no living thing will perform at all
