PROLOGUE

My battery is low, and it is getting dark.

My voice is hoarse, and I am running out of oxygen.

The night is dark, and it is full of secrets, hidden in a dustbowl.

I lay in the haunting sweep of blooming red violence and drift into slumber eternal

ONE: OVERVIEW

I walk the many faced orb of your desire

I’ve seen the beast of a faraway prize

I’ve seen the fawning, I’ve seen the fire

//

The evaporated nothingness ever drier

that pours technologic liquid from my eyes

I will sentence my corpse to the pyre

//

The stars ring out a heavenly choir

to my deaf shell it need not apply,

for I have foreseen the future, and I need not remember the prior

//

The tread of the ground is a ceaseless wire

A tightrope walker born to die

Lost in my current, beginning to tire

//

Beautiful man on the opposite end, a liar

who promises he peddles not lies

I only wish to fly higher

//

I sink slow and lazy into the briar,

my new home, my disguise

I am engulfed by the ebb and flow of the mire;

commence the search for new hire

TWO: ADVENTURE

Brave knight brave night

Come to me in your sweet melancholy

Push away the pain of isolation

The numb brain held fast in a sphere of consciousness

//

Beautiful boy beautiful forever

Beyond the overreaching steps and bounds of humanity

Past the searching and prodding of a gendered finger

The grubby hands can’t touch the trail of dust you force feed them

//

You eat the Earth and swallow Time

Come to me in the darkest of hours, the deepest devoured

I will be the mother you never wanted,

and the yearning of release you always did

//

Time walker time waker

You shift like a clock in infinity

Even I am powerless to stop

your endless explorations

THREE: MESSENGER

To you, to you

A message I send to you

Set in code

In numerical scores

(like a forgotten Mozart, a transcendent Shakespeare)

FOUR: SPACE COWBOY

Whirlwind, skyscraper, steel-toed mercy

These are all the things I do to please her, Circe

Woman by day, sorceress by night

I fight and fight and fight and fight

//

Over glorified space cowboy on the loose

Rubber necked chicken with the attitude of a goose

Screaming somewhere into space

Cursing the name of the human race

//

Renegade, overpaid, here I stay, a lonesome Romeo

Broke my back, blackest black, a rainbow flag, no homo

Gone away, another day, safe to say, I’m invisible

Into the storm, away where it’s warm, take on new norms, invincible

//

I want my brother back

Trace another track

Lost in a losing vesseled void

My heart burns with tragedy I can’t avoid

EPILOGUE

Thou art a simple fellow, beyond the barricade of communicative errors

You radiate where I cannot, shine where I shalt not

I have lost myself along the tender lines of fifteen years gone by

I am a widow, and to you I burn my last insignia

For you have fuel to start and end a thousand fires, and it will one day once more be bright
