Misophonia

Yeah, you heard that right!

Misophonia is a disorder where people have abnormally strong and negative reactions to the ordinary sounds humans make, such as chewing or breathing. (MedicalNewsToday)

A poem

Excuse me, but do you really need

Such a loud motorbike?

Does noise somehow equal speed?

You're making my pulse spike!!

~

Quit your noisy lip-smacking!

Keep that food in your mouth!

And what's with the knuckle cracking??

These sounds I need to douse!

~

Why are you breathing so loud like that?

Can't you somehow quieten down?

Hold your breath if you can, honey,

At least your nose will make no sound.

~

Trucks, horns, breathing, fistling,

Wrappers in the theatre!

Old men tapping fingers, whistling,

Through dentures, there's nothing greater

~

That grinds my gears, than awful sound

My teeth are clenching hard.

Hold it in, or I will frown!

Misophonia has me wired!!

~

I hope my poem gave you a bit of a giggle. I know I'm not alone when it comes to the irrational irritation brought by other people's noises.

About the Creator

Deborah Robinson

I'm new to the 'writing for real' scene. Previously, I've kept my poetry and writing under wraps in a fancy notebook, but now I've decided to give it a proper go!

I hope you enjoy my work.

Thanks, Deborah.
