Misery,

my special friend,

you’ve darkened my world

enslaved my hopes.

You’ve

pushed me through

doors to many bars,

made me a fool

as my head spins

like a never-ending top.

You pour the drinks,

hard liquor or

golden brew,

bombarding me

with your stories

of your brother and sister:

Failure and Despair.

Misery,

you’re always looking after me

as I down one bottle

And another,

numbing my head and blurring my eyes.

Just so

that gift you gave me

can filter through

and make me live

the stories of failure

and despair,

over and over.

Oh, misery

you really get me

into your clutches.

So, as I sit here

shedding tears

in my beer,

I can blame you for this pain,

but Misery,

I know,

I’m the fool who let you sit down

with me.

And I let you watch

as I downed that golden brew.

I let you get the best of me.

That’s why you’re a special friend

because

Misery,

You always know how to get

the best of me.
