Misconceptions About Happiness

Slam Poem - How there are many misconceptions about someone who may seem happy with everything that is going on around them, even if they are using that so called happiness as a mask in order of other people to not worry or to even not question them about it. People may look happy in public settings but that is not always the case.

What is Happiness?

Happiness.

The word that is so commonly misused for someone who hides their pain behind a smile.

The so-called "happy" smile that has been told that it can be seen from miles,

That one smile people think comes from the person with such a perfect life.

But in reality, that is full of many lies.

How are we so quick to put a label on someone when we never really knew their story,

The people who have things happening behind all closed doors.

Because if they tried to tell you about it, you'd build up a bore,

Because why would you even care unless they had something you wanted.

But do not worry, the only thing you know how to do, is to say "sorry".

You're sorry?

Why are you apologizing for what I go through?

It's not like you truly cared in the first place.

Right?

I was "happy" in your eyes.

But in reality, I just wanted those days to go by,

But when I said that,

You said I was being overdramatic.

Happiness.

The word that is used to describe someone who smiles so no one sees their pain,

That one smile that makes others smile as well.

The one they think comes from the person with such a perfect life.

That one person who just wants to make others happy.

No one really understood the reason behind that,

To why someone wanted to make others happy while they were hurting inside.

This was because they knew how it felt, in fact.

How it felt to be alone,

With not being able to express themselves without feeling like they were at the graveside.

Sometimes it is easier to hide how we feel instead of having someone worry,

With everything we are going through.

When everything just becomes so blurry.

One day, I promised myself.

I will get out of these blues.

We all think that there is no end to the pain,

But I am here to tell you that there is.

That we are not always going to be bound by a chain.

But you might think,

That's what everyone says.

That is true.

That is what everyone says,

But no one wants to continue watching you be stuck by the glue.

The glue of the pain that keeps pulling you back in.

The one that is not allowing you to grin,

Because it makes you uncomfortable in your own skin.

Obviously I can't tell you how to live your life,

But I can help you create a better mindset.

You know,

I do not want you to see me as a threat,

Or just another one of those cadets.

I want to see you in this life,

And not the afterlife.

I want to be that person who watches you strive,

And to see you happy with everything YOU want to do,

Even if it means we just talk while going on a drive.

Just to watch the view.

Happiness.

The word that describes the choice we are given when we are going through hard times.

We are given that choice to see what makes us happy,

To see if those things are worth the climb.

To finally be in a state of mind where we are actually happy.

And to finally say, "I did it".
