Mirrors

Sestina

When I look in the mirror

I see mother

Her eyes brown

as mine; transparent

There is no hiding what we are

We're flawed and haunted

Indeed, we are haunted

As I look at us in the mirror

discovering what we are

Something beyond mother

Misty yet transparent

With eyes brown

Eyes down. Eyes brown

we seem to be forever haunted

In this place so transparent

as we reflect in the mirror

me and Mother

Together we are

We are

together in a sea of brown

Me and mother

Haunted

As we fade into the mirror

Black, cold, transparent

Loud desperation, recklessness, transparent

Forever we are

here before the mirror

Into the brown

The sea which remains haunted

Together me and mother

I finally see mother

in a world that is transparent

Black and haunted

As we are

Deep in the brown

Deep in the mirror

I see mother in the mirror

Her eyes brown and transparent

Indeed, we are haunted
