Mirror, mirror

The verse is behind the glass

Who is the fairest

The prettiest

And the liveliest?

Who is the reddest

Of cheeks

With hair-pinned roses?

Who is the dreamiest

The luckiest

And most fortunate?

Who is the dressest

The sublimest

And virginest?

Who is the mightiest

Clumsiest and wittiest?

And the mirror echoes...

For the first question

There is nothing certain

As a kiss could enliven and murder...

As for the second

Those who see the back

Will most definitely forget the inner...

For the third

I have to ponder much

Yet I have to say it is who asks no mirror...

For the fourth

I am under no impression

Where I see the humming terror...

For the fifth

It is easiest of all!

I attest it is that who loves after the fall.
