"I look at my face in the mirror, but it's not my reflection I see..."

By Alana MariPublished 9 years ago 1 min read

i look at my face in the mirror,

but it's not my reflection i see

it's some stranger glaring back at me

she stares with accusing eyes

and i can feel the weight of the

world behind that pretty disguise

i tell her to smile, keep her head held high

don't let any of that ugliness on the

inside ever come outside

she asks me if she can cry, to which i regretfully deny

but this world is rough i say

to survive you must be strong

she rips the veil that i placed between us down,

and i see that she is just me

but a babe that knows nothing more

then unconditional love to all

saddened by my lack of play time

she touches my heart to remind me it's wild

implores upon me to hold her hand, perhaps even a tea party

i tell her, "we'll see," but then remember that

this is me, seeing me

there's nothing she can't see, that wide-eyed little me

surreal poetry
