Don't Turn Around

I feel it behind me

I know something is there

It may be unfounded

but I fear for my welfare

?

It's just my imagination

Something of my mind's creation

?

The mantra has little effect

My heart goes on pounding, unchecked

?

Was that breathing I heard?

No, certainly not— that's absurd

I risk a quick glance

Leaving nothing to chance

?

It's just my imagination

Something of my mind's creation

?

There was something

That quickly vaporized

Fog...Mist...A ghost?

Something sinister somehow disguised?

?

It's just my imagination

Something of my mind's creation

?

My pace quickens

I vow never again to look back

A frenzy is building

Then, everything

goes

BLACK
