I lay—half-groggy—in my bed

My dog beside me, head tucked away

The TV glowing in the midnight daze

Smartphone beyond my reach, if I just stretch—

No, too far, too much to ask

I let the muted noises of the town wrap around me

Lull me toward a restless sleep—

Roar!

A motorcycle rushes by

(Geez, Mister, haven’t you considered the time of night?)

My eyes stare into the near-darkness

My head vibrates with thoughts from the day—

Did I work enough? Will I have enough money?

Will I ever be a writer again?

Is this all…

…all that I am meant to be?

Spiraling spiraling spiraling

My thoughts spiral towards that darkest place

That even the light of the TV cannot brighten

Please help me

I cry into the night

Please help me

Stream of Consciousness
