midnight solace

an ode to my home

By sydcxxPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

i find comfort in the darkest places,

the glow of the moonlight is my guide;

the mourning comes when she fades away

and i hold my breath until we meet again;

the dewdrops will dance in a delicate rhythm,

do they know they’ll disappear too?

a sprinkle of sorrow refracted by sunlight,

but i lie until they vanish;

i feel her warmth on my skin now

as she beckons me to come outside,

the light in her soul could never outshine

the darkness i’ve buried so deeply in mine;

the evening approaches me gently,

painting the horizon with timid strokes

before the ocean starts to smolder

and my lungs begin to burn;

then suddenly i can hear her laugh as she drifts among the stars,

she smiles at me through the treetop canopies

and illuminates a part of me i save for when she has to leave;

at last;

i let go and breathe her in once more.
