Black in Michigan Detroit
The history’s everywhere you look
Shows up in yuh skin
Cant escape it in Detroit Michigan
We were here before and after Lincoln
The white mans brain won’t let it sink in
Even though we fought in their wars
They still want us all behind bars
White supremacy is more than skin deep
Running rampant all through the streets
Melanin towns destroyed and run down
Just broken promises of the underground
Black bodies corralled and cornered
Lines drawn and they love to show us
“Stay away from the bad neighborhoods.”
Whites always tryna protect “our goods”
A black man tries to establish himself
White mobs try to hang him themselves
You brought us here so we got your rights
Push too hard brings 2nd arm to the fight
That Sweet Shot has you seeing the sky
See the world through a black mans eyes
After the police comes and brutalizes
They kill us twice
Cut our rights
Make our choices black or right
And still we fight
Even when we’re not ok
Even when they take our moms away
Black men stand strong
Even when our dads are gone
Even when the shots are from our own
Black in Michigan Detroit
The history’s everywhere you look
Shows up in yuh skin
Cant escape it in Detroit Michigan
