Messy

oh, what a mess we've made of things

my heart is a nest of scattered sticks

poking through ribs like kebab skewers

roasting slowly on the embers of my emotions

still coursing through my body

nerves a bundle set aflame

blood boiling beneath the surface

there's an itch in the middle of my left ear cartilage

begging explanation for why I must keep listening to all this bullshit

and to why I wake up so tired, prickly, and overheated

but there's a storm brewing out there

fires being lit and voices being sharpened

the people are restless

the change they all prayed for backfired and now

they're left wading through the consequences like baffled swimmers

all stuck in a muck of their own making

and the powers at be who took advantage

did you imagine it would be that easy

how fast the tide could turn when you were too busy typing in your credit card info for all the scammers

cause we got scammed, knowingly

and now the rage is surfacing beneath our skin

gathering in the ringing of ears that itch

and hearts that had to be stabbed with kebab sticks just to get a pulse back

it sure is messy out there
